Historical tour-Mtskheta, Djvari, Gori, Uplistsikhe
About this tour
We are going to have a lovely tour around ancient Georgia!
First we’ll travel to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. We’ll walk along cobbled streets, enjoy the aroma of fresh coffee in the sand, local spices, sauces and sweets. We’ll attend the patriarchal temple Svetitskhoveli (IV century A.D., UNESCO site) where Jesus Christ’s robe, the royal family of Bagrationi and patriarchs of Georgia were buried.
Then comes Monastery Djvari (VI century A.D.) where you can also have an amazing panoramic view over 2 rivers Mtkvari and Aragvi joining each other and the old capital of Georgia Mtskheta.
Then we go to Gori to visit the museum of one of the most powerful politicians and dictators of the 20th century Josef Stalin.He was born in Gori.
We’ll also walk around famous Fortress Goristsikhe, I century B.C.
We can have some delicious local food here. Wine tasting in a local winery is optional.
Afterwards we go to Uplistsikhe rock hewn cave town dated II century B.C., one of the first town of ancient Georgia.
This town was on the Great Silkway route too.
Then we go back to Tbilisi.
