Manado Excursion : Mahawu Volcano Trekking
About this tour
An easy trek to each Mahawu crater's edge.
This is a soft adventure at its best!! Easily climb to Mount Mahawu (1,324 m) along its paved road where you will be rewarded with views over the whole region and into a 180m-wide, 140m-deep sulphuric crater lake, which you can walk around in less than an hour. Pick up from the hotel and drive straight to Tomohon highland. Arriving at the base of Mount Mahawu. We begin the 1-hour trek to the crater’s edge. From that vantage point, we can see Bunaken Manado Tua Islands, as well as the bay of Manado. At the bottom of the crater, one can observe a steaming lake and experience the smell of sulfur from the pools. The view is mostly green with the various vegetable farms on the slopes. After this magnificent hike, we stop for lunch at a shore-side restaurant on Lake Tondano, the largest one in North Sulawesi at 700 meters altitude. The freshwater fish farming contributes a unique scenery and combined with the cool air, it provides a nice closing to the day.
